The Promise

21 Dec

The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light;

Those who live in a dark land,  The light will shine on them.

Isaiah 9:2

The promise was love, and the promise was life to the world.
The name of the Promise was Jesus.

Christ Our Substitute

Christ Our Substitute

The Lord Jesus Christ, in great love and compassion, has made a full and complete satisfaction for sin, by suffering death in our place upon the cross. There He offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, and allowed the wrath of God, which we deserved, to fall on His own head. For our sins, as our Substitute, He gave Himself, suffered, and died – the just for the unjust, the innocent for the guilty – that He might deliver us from the curse of a broken law, and provide a complete pardon for all who are willing to receive it.

~ J.C. Ryle

All have Sinned:

Isaiah 53:5-6 “But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him, “

Romans 3:23-25 “ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;”

Romans 5:8-9 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we ere yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.”

Romans 5:12-14 “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned–for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to com.”

Children of Wrath – Made Alive in Christ

Ephesians 2:1-3 “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.”

Sin Entered the World Through Adam:

Genesis 3:1-19  “Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, “You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”

The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;

But from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, “You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’”

The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die!

“For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden,

Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”

He said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.”

And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”

The man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.”

Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

The LORD God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life;

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heal.”

To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.”

Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you saying, “You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life.

Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field;

By the sweat of your face you will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”

The Bible gives us instruction on how to be right before God, Confess your sins. 1 John 1:8-10 said; “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.”

The Authority of Scripture

The law is perfect: Psalms 19:7

The law of the LORD is perfect,

Restoring the soul;

The testimony of the LORD is sure,

Making wise the simple.

Psalms 19:7

It is pure – Psalms 19:8

The precepts of the LORD are right,

Rejoicing the heart;

The commandments of the LORD is pure,

Enlightening the eyes.

Psalms 19:8

Endures forever – Psalms 19:9

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;

The judgments of the LORD are true;

They are righteous altogether.

Psalms 19:9

The perpetuity of the Word – Matthew 22:31,32 / Matthew 19:4-6

“But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God: I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE,

“So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

Matthew 19:4-6

The Sufficiency of Scripture – Isaiah 55:11 / Psalms 119:11- 16, 2 Tim. 3:16,17, Matt. 4:4, Hebrews 4:12, John 6:63

So will My word be which goes forth from my mouth;

It will not return to Me empty,

Without accomplishing what I desire,

And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:11

Your word I have treasured in my heart,

That I may not sin against You.

Blessed are You, O LORD;

Teach me Your statutes.

With my lips I have told of

All the ordinances of Your mouth.

I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies.

As much as in all riches,

I will mediate on Your precepts

And regard Your ways.

I shall delight in Your statutes;

I shall not forget Your word.

Psalms 119:11-16

All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.     2 Tim 3:16,17

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’”      Matthew 4:4

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.      Hebrews 4:12

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. John 6:63

The Bible the Word of God  – Hebrew 6:18, John 17:17, Proverbs 30:5

God can not lie

So that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.     Hebrews 6:18

“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.     John 17:17

Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.     Proverbs 30:5

The Infallibility of Scripture – Matthew 5:18, Isaiah 40:8

“For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Matt. 5:18

The grass writhers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8

How Blessed

11 Jun

How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust.
And has not turned to the proud, nor
to those who lapse into falsehood.
Many, O LORD my God, are the
wonders which You have done,
And Your thoughts toward us;
There is none to compare with You.
If I would declare and speak of them,
They would be too numerous to count.
Psalms 40:4,5

Psalms 36 – The Blessings of the Believer

18 Nov

Psalm36_SherryDuBoisIn this Psalm,  David is given an oracle (the knowledge of the sinfulness of the wicked) concerning the philosophy and life style of unbelievers as they plotted wicked schemes.  David in this Psalm records what he learned. The philosophy of the wicked is based on their absence of the Fear of the LordPsalms 36 tells us – They have no dread of the Lord, they sense no terror of their actions, so they proceed in their wickedness

Because they have no terror or respect for the Lord, the wicked commit evil continuously.  He soothes his own conscious, flatters himself,  and hides his sin, because if he seen it the way God does, he would hate what he does.  As he commits himself to sinful and evil actions, he rationalizes and has no inclination to reject the evil he does.  The Bible tells us that the wicked plot evil  ( Hosea 7:15, Nahum 1:11).

Transgression speaks to the ungodly within his heart;

There is no fear of God before his eyes.

For it flatters him in his own eyes

Concerning the discovery of his iniquity and the hatred of it.

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceits;

He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

He plans wickedness upon his bed;

He sets himself on a path that is not good;

He does not despise evil.

Psalms 36:1-4   NASB

David found relief in his experiential knowledge of the glorious nature of the Lord, who brings about blessings to believers.  He prayed  that the Lord would  continue His loyal love and righteousness so that the wicked would not destroy his integrity.  God’s loyal love is precious to believers.  Faithfulness, righteousness, and justice are the attributes that belong to the Lord and are an inexhaustible resource for the believer.

Your loving kindness O LORD,

Extends to the heavens,

Your faithfulness reaches to the skies,

Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;

Your judgments are like a great deep.

O LORD,  You preserve man and beast.

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!

And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.

They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house;

And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights.

For with You is the fountain of life;

In Your light we see light.

O continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You,

And Your righteousness to the upright in heart,

Let not the foot of pride come upon me,

And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.

There the doers of iniquity have fallen;

They have been thrust down and cannot rise.

Psalms 36:5-7-12   NASB

Jesus Saves

28 May

orc002bTo be saved means to become a child of God, to have all one’s sins forgiven and to receive the gift of eternal life.

To all who received Him [Jesus] to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God – John 1:12

The blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin – 1 John 1:7

God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son – 1 John 5:11,12

And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.  God sent Jesus into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him.

God said about Jesus, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”   – Luke 3:22

And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they. Hebrews 1:3-4

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.  “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. –  John 3:16,17,18

gosptxtWe are told in the Bible that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), but God forgives our sins because of what Jesus has done when He died on the cross. He [Jesus] took the punishment we deserved for our sins.

“He was pieced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed…The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” – Isaiah 53:5,6

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  – Romans 5:6-8

namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.  – 2 Corinthians 5:19-21

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. – 1 Peter 1:18,19

and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. – 1 Peter2:24

We must repent, asking God to forgive us for our sins and believe in our heart that Jesus died for us, that He was risen on the 3rd day.  We must be born again,  and receive a new inner spiritual life which is given by God the Holy Spirit.  Those who do not believe will continue to live under the judgment of God and will be eternally lost.

“Come now, and let us reason together,”

Says the LORD,

“Though your sins are as scarlet,

They will be as white as snow;

Though they are red like crimson,

They will be like wool.  –  Isaiah 1:18

As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.  –  Psalms 103:12

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment,  but has passed out of death into life. – John 5:24

“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;  – Acts 3:19

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” – Acts 16:31

Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – John 3:3

Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” – John 3:6

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

We can not earn our salvation. It is not by works or our own efforts. . It is by God’s unmerited favor and love [God’s grace].  We can have eternal life only through Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus Saves,  and is the only way of salvation and eternal life.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2:8,9

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. – John 14:6

“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12

Praise for the LORD’S Mercies – Psalm 103

See Video: http://youtu.be/Ades5tadw7Y

Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name.

Bless the LORD, O my soul,  And forget none of His benefits;

Who pardons all your iniquities,  Who heals all your diseases;

Who redeems yur life from the pit,  Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compasion;

Who satisfies your years with good things,  So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

The LORD performs righteous deeds And judgments for all who are oppressed.

He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel.

The LORD is compassionate and gracious,  Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.

He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever.

He has not dealt with us according to our sins,  Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,  So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.

As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Just as a father has compassion on his children,  So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.

For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.

As for man, his days are like grass;  As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.

When the wind has passed over it, it is no more,  And its place acknowledges it no longer.

But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him,  And His righteousness to children’s children,

To those who keep His covenant  And remember His precepts to do them.

The LORD has established His throne in the heavens,  And His sovereignty rules over all.

Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obey the voice of His word!

Bless the LORD, all you HIs hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will.

Bless the LORD, all you works of His,  In all places of His dominion;  Bless the LORD, O my soul!
