Romans 8

21 May

Romans8_18So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh–for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit, Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Romans 8:12-18

Wait My Soul

30 Dec

Wait, my soul, upon the Lord,

To His gracious promise flee,

Laying hold upon His word,

“As thy days they strength shall be”

If the sorrows of thy case

Seem peculiar still to thee,

God has promised needful grace,

“As thy days thy strength shall be”

Days of trial, days of grief,

In succession thou mayst see;

This is still thy sweet relief,

“As thy days thy strength shall be”

Rock of Ages, I’m secure,

With Thy promise full and free;

Faithful, positive, and sure—

“As thy days thy strength shall be”

Dealing with Disappointments

18 Jun

Disappointment seems to come to all of us. We can all relate on some level. Someone hurts us or lets us down. We may be the ones that have let someone else down.  We all at sometime in life don’t feel good enough.  But when disappointments come we are at a time of decision  We can condemn ourselves and ask the “what if” or “if only” questions which usually lead to regret.  We could blame others so someone else is at fault. This kind of reasoning usually leads to depression, anger, and bitterness.  If we can see our disappoints as what we can learn and grow from them, we can put it into perspective.

Life is full of disappointments so at sometime or another all of us will deal with it.  Sometimes we just know we should of done things differently and we may be at fault. We may have disappointed God with our actions over something we said or did in the heat of the moment. Remembering that God loves us, we should pray, ask forgiveness and lean on God’s promises. Our God is a God of Hope.  At times like this, turn your attention to heaven.  Move towards God and not away from him.  God is there to give us strength in our weakness.

O God, You are my God, I shall seek You earnestly;

My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,

In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Psalms 63:1

When you are feeling disappointed remember everything you already have. Listen to the LORD by trusting His Word.  Read His Word and study His ways. That might seem unreasonable but God’s Word gives us counsel.  Good and Wise counsel.  When you follow God’s counsel from His word, you will find solutions for your disappointment. Believe that God has a purpose and that he uses the Good and the Bad for a greater purpose.  Know that nothing that happens to you is meaningless.  Pray, ask God for his help and He will see you through your adversity.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”  Romans 8:28

Perseverance of the Saints

3 Jul

It is truly our business to show forth God’s Faithfulness. Let us publish abroad the faithfulness of God. I wonder sometimes that there should be any doubts in the world about the doctrine of the final perseverance of the saints.

Those thousands of true believers who stay on their course cannot, of course, say much about themselves. It would not be right to do so, but they do speak of God’s unfailing goodness and His unchangeable truthfulness and His word. The Lord does not cast away his people, but gives us strength in order that we may bear through. The strength of our testimony is on God’s Faithfulness toward us as believers in Christ.

The LORD Implored to Avenge His People

Psalm 94

O LORD, God of vengeance,

God of vengeance, shine forth!

Rise up, O Judge of the earth,

Render recompense to the proud.

How long shall the wicked, O LORD,

How long shall the wicked exult?

They pour forth words, they speak

Arrogantly;

All who do wickedness vaunt themselves.

They crush Your people, O LORD,

And afflict Your heritage.

They slay the widow and the stranger

And murder the orphans.

They have said, “The LORD does not see,

Nor does the God of Jacob pay heed.”

Pay heed, you senseless among the people;

And when will you understand stupid ones?

He who planted the ear, does He not hear?

He who formed the eye, does He not see?

He who chastens the nations, will He not rebuke,

Even He who teaches man knowledge?

The LORD knows the thoughts of man,

That they are a mere breath.

Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD,

And whom You teach out of Your law;

That You may grant him relief from the

days of adversity,

Until a pit is dug for the wicked.

For the LORD will not abandon His people,

Nor will He forsake His inheritance.

For judgment will again be righteous

And all the upright in heart will follow it.

Who will stand up for me against evildoers?

Who will take his stand for me against

those who do wickedness?

If the LORD had not been my help,

My soul would soon have dwelt in the

abode of silence.

If I should say, “My foot has slipped,”

Your lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up

When my anxious thoughts multiply

within me,

Your consolation delight my soul.

Can a throne of destruction be allied

with You,

One which devises mischief by decree?

They band themselves together against

The life of the righteous

And condemn the innocent to death.

But the LORD has been my stronghold,

And my God the rock of my refuge.

He has brought back their wickedness upon them

And will destroy them in their evil;

The LORD our God will destroy them.

Psalm 94 from the NASB

The Wickedness of Men and Lovingkindness of God

18 Apr

Transgression speaks to the ungodly within his heart; There is no fear of God before his eyes.

For it flatters him in his own eyes concerning the discovery of his iniquity and the hatred of it.

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

He plans wickedness upon his bed; He sets himself on a path that is not good; he does not despise evil.

Your loving kindness, O LORD, extends to the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; Your judgments are like a great deep. O LORD, You preserve man and beast.

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.

 They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house; And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights.

 For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

 O continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart.

 Let not the foot of pride come upon me, And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.

 There the doers of iniquity have fallen; They have been thrust down and cannot rise.

Psalms 36:1-12
