The Promise

21 Dec

The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light;

Those who live in a dark land,  The light will shine on them.

Isaiah 9:2

The promise was love, and the promise was life to the world.
The name of the Promise was Jesus.

Peace and Harmony

22 May

When you think about having peace in your life, at the very center of peace is harmony.  To be at peace with someone, whether it is a friend, a family member, a neighbor, or God means to be in a harmonious relationship.  When we repent and ask Jesus Christ to cleanse us of our sins and make us a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) we are asking for a harmonious relationship, to be at peace with our creator.  And God is faithful and He does what he says. His love and forgiveness is there for every sinner that repents and turns from sin and follows Him.

What does it mean for a person to be Saved?  To be saved is to become a child of God, to have all one’s sins forgiven and to receive the gift of eternal life.

“To all who received him (Jesus) , to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God.”  John 1:12

“The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”  1 John 1:7

“God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”  1 John 5:11

We all instinctively know that when we do wrong there is always a penalty, so we wonder; how can this be that God would forgive our sins.  How can I believe God has forgiven me?  Jesus died in our place. He took on himself all the punishment we deserve. Jesus Christ died for our sins.

“He was pieced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed…The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”  Isaiah 53:5,6

“For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly, For one will hardly die for a righteous man, though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.”  Romans 5:5-9

“ namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.  Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”   2 Corinthians 5:19-21

“knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.  For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”  1 Peter 1:18-21

“and He Himself  bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.”  1 Peter 2:24-25

God will forgive your sins because He has said He will in His word. God has not left us to wonder if real forgiveness is true, we have been given the scriptures to teach us and for us to know our creator:

“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”  Isaiah 1:18

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”  Psalm 103:12

In order to receive this gift of Salvation we must repent of our sins and believe that Jesus died for us.  Once we have confessed our sins to God and asked for God’s forgiveness, real peace has now come.

“Repent, then and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”  Acts 3:19

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”  Acts 16:31

We can not earn salvation no matter how hard we may try to live a good life. Salvation is a gift of God and is not earned by good works.   We are “saved” by God’s grace [His unmerited or un-earned favor and love],  not by our own efforts.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.”  Ephesians 2:8,9

Jesus was very specific when He spoke about Salvation and how to know God and be redeemed by Him.  Some people today try to claim that there are many ways to God. They claim that there are many “paths”, but Christ said that the way was narrow to life and peace.  There is only one way to true peace with God. There is no other way except through Jesus Christ to be saved.

“Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:6

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

Everyone who truly believes that Christ has died for their sins, and that God has raised Him from the dead, has the gift of eternal life:

Jesus said “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”  John 5:24

Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, he who beieves has everlasting life.”  John 6:47

Those who do not believe will continue to live under the judgment of God and will be eternally lost. Many people like to quote John 3:16, and many accept that truth from God’s word but many also fail to keep reading and accept this truth from God’s word as well:

“whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God one and only Son.”  John 3:18

And continue:  John 3:19-21

“This is the judgment, that Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.  “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.  “But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”

The Bible teaches that a person cannot be saved unless he is born again. “Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, unless a man is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.”  John 3:3

To be born again is to receive a new inner spiritual life through the Holy Spirit so that one becomes a new person in Christ.  Without this new birth, everyone is spiritually dead because of their sins, he is separated  from God, and he remains under the sentence of death:

“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.”  John 3:6

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”  2 Corinthians 5:17

“Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.  You should not be surprised at my saying, “You must be born again.”  John 3:5-7

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”  Matthew 28:19

The Word Is Alive

Today if you hear his voice do not harden your heart. Peace of mind and heart come from inviting God who is the source of peace, to live in you, to help you understand that this world is only temporary.  Knowing this, you can navigate through any chaos or problem because you ultimately know God is in control.  To find this harmony with God you must ask Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sins and make you clean in His sight.

Turn away from evil and do good.  Search for peace, and work to maintain it.  Psalm 34:14

There will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good.  Romans 2:10

Peace with God comes from living the way you were created to live.  That happens when you develop a relationship with your Creator and live by the standards he has written in his Word, the Bible.  When you set aside your sinful lifestyle and work toward a godly lifestyle and loving others, you will experience God’s peace as your mind, heart, and actions get into agreement with His.  Peace comes from knowing that God is in control of your life. Focus your thoughts on God and what He is able to accomplish in your life, not on the problems.  Keep your attitude humble that way you will have a realistic view of yourself and get to know God, “Those who love your instruction have great peace and do not stumble.” Psalm 119:165 True peace comes from knowing and living according to God’s Word, His wisdom and direction guides you into safety and leads you out of conflicts, compromise, and deception.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3

To the Cross I Cling

No day of my life has passed that has not

Proved me guilty in Your sight

The best I have to offer are these filthy rags

And yet You love me

All things in me call for my rejection

All things in You plead my acceptance

I am guilty but pardoned

By grace I’ve been set free

I am ransomed through

The blood You shed for me

I was dead in my transgressions

But life You brought to me

I am reconciled through mercy

To the cross I cling.

No more am I a slave to sin but

Bought with a price

Redemption that was purchased through

The blessed cross

That You bore for me.

The cross is where I find death

Is where I find life

Where mercy found me!

Al things in me call for my rejection

All things in You plead my acceptance

I am guilty but pardoned

By grace I’ve been set free

I am ransomed through

The blood You shed for me

I was dead in my transgressions

But life You brought to me

I am reconciled through mercy

To the cross I cling.
