Rooted in Christ

22 Oct

What do we do when everything we hold dear is being uprooted?  Where do we find stability?  Only in one person; Jesus Christ.   To thrive in an uncertain world we must root ourselves in Him.

Colossians 2:6-7

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,  having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith,  just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

Psalms 1

Colossians2_6_7How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.

Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

He will be like a tree firmly planted by steams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season

And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

The wicked are not so,  But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.

The Resurrection of Jesus

24 Mar

john11_25-26The angel said to the woman, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.  “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.  Come, see the place where He was lying. “Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”

Matthew 28:5-7

Without the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, there would be no Christianity.  Just as Jesus promised He rose from the dead. Because of this we can be confident that all his promises are true. Jesus bodily resurrection from the dead is proof that He was no false prophet. He had power over death. The resurrection is the basis for our faith because Jesus proved to be more than just a human leader, He is the Son of God.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.  Do you believe this?”  John 11:25,26

Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?  But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.  For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.    1 Corinthians 15:12-17

There were eyewitness accounts that Jesus rose from the dead. The apostles risked being martyred for preaching the truth of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Millions of lives have been changed because of this life changing message of what Jesus did at the Cross, that He suffered, and died and rose again and is alive today!

Christ’ sacrifice on the cross  accomplished God’s plan.  Our sins are forgiven, and we will live forever with Jesus in Heaven.  Without the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, there would be no Christianity. Jesus’ Resurrection is central to our faith because it demonstrates God’s power over death and assures us believers that one day that we also will be resurrected. His resurrection is the beginning of eternal life for all who believe in Him.

God Helps those who Seek Him

26 Oct

Psalms 121

I will lift up my eyes to the hills

From whence comes my help?

My help comes from the LORD,

Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;

He who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, He who keeps Israel

Shall neither slumber nor sleep

The LORD is your keeper,

The LORD is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day,

Nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;

He shall preserve your soul.

The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in

From this time forth, and ever forevermore.

The Certainty of Our Hope

24 Jul

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. – Romans 5:5

In addition, beloved, we are not ashamed of the absolute certainty that our hope will be realized. We believe that if, indeed, we are justified by faith and have peace with God, we have a hope of glory that will not fail us in the end or on the way to the end. We do not expect to be deserted and to be left to fall from grace. “for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb 13:5). We do not expect to be left to ourselves, which would mean our sure and certain ruin, but we do expect that He who has begun a good work in us will perfect it until the Day of Christ (Phil. 1:6).

We are certain that He who has created this hope in us will justify that hope by fulfilling it in due time. He will preserve us through long life if we are to live a long time; He will maintain a living hope in us when the time comes for us to die; and He will remember even our dust and ashes when they are hidden in the grave. “Who shall separate us…from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord?” (Rom. 8:35-39)

It is written, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16). And this is the way it will be. The believer will not “perish from the way” (Ps. 2:12) or during the way. Has God not said, “I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me” (Jer. 32:40)?  He will not allow His children to stumble and fall. He says, “I give unto [my sheep] eternal life: and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28). We will never be deceived in our trust in Jesus. No one will be able to say, “I trusted the Lord Christ to keep me, and He has not kept me. I rested in Jesus to preserve my spiritual life, and He has not preserved me.” Never.  We will not be ashamed of our hope.

Christ Is Risen

Song: Christ is Risen Link: http://youtu.be/A44xU35UC1Y

“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.  For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming, “ 1 Corinthians 15:20-23

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”  Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”  Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”  John 11:23-26

And Jesus answered them, saying “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me, and where I am, there My servant will be also; If anyone serves Me the Father will honor him.  John 12:23-26

“The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.  He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.  Come, see the place where He was lying.   Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.” Matthew 28:5-7

O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH WHERE IS YOUR STING?”  The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law: but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord. “  1 Corinthians 15:55:58

Fear Not, God is a refuge and strength

Isaiah 43

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;  I have called you by name; you are Mine! When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flames burn you.  For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;

Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear, I will help you.

1 Peter 3:12-14  For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.” Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?  But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.  “Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.”

2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and self-discipline.

Psalm 46:1  God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.
