Rooted in Christ

22 Oct

What do we do when everything we hold dear is being uprooted?  Where do we find stability?  Only in one person; Jesus Christ.   To thrive in an uncertain world we must root ourselves in Him.

Colossians 2:6-7

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,  having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith,  just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

Psalms 1

Colossians2_6_7How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.

Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

He will be like a tree firmly planted by steams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season

And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

The wicked are not so,  But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.

Christians Never Perish

8 Nov

As Christians we have great security and confidence in our Savior to lead and comfort us in all our trials. As we cling to the promises of scripture we are fortified and assured of His presence in our lives. God helps us and is the anchor of our faith. We are given strength for the tasks at hand.

Do not fear I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you; for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

As a believer we have the Holy Spirit within us and can draw upon His power. When we ask God in prayer for His help, we can rely on Him in our daily struggles and God will fight for us. He is our hope, our confidence and our strength. Praise be to God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Below is a beautiful quote from J.C. Ryles expressing how much we mean to God because we belong to Him:

True Christians shall never perish. Are they not Christ’s special property, the servants of His house, the members of His family, the children of His adoption? Then surely He will never let them be overthrown, He will watch them as tenderly as we watch over our own flesh and blood, He will guard them as we guard our valuable and precious possessions, He will cherish them as we cherish that which is most dear to our hearts; He never would have laid down His life for their sakes if He had intended to give them up.”J.C. Ryles

How Blessed

11 Jun

How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust.
And has not turned to the proud, nor
to those who lapse into falsehood.
Many, O LORD my God, are the
wonders which You have done,
And Your thoughts toward us;
There is none to compare with You.
If I would declare and speak of them,
They would be too numerous to count.
Psalms 40:4,5

Our Great Savior

9 Mar

Our Great Savior

Jesus what a Friend for sinners!  Jesus lover of my soul

Friends may fail me,  Foes assail me

He my Savior,  makes me whole.

Hal-le-lu-jah!  What a Savior!

Ha-le-lu-jah! What a Friend!

Sav-ing, help-ing, keep-ing, lov-ing,

He is with me to the end.

Understanding God’s Lovingkindness

2 Jul

Caring, kindness, compassion, respect.  These are words that describe what it means to show empathy.  The dictionary gives this meaning: understanding of another’s feelings: the ability to identify with,  and understand somebody else’s feelings and difficulties.  This word means more than feeling bad for someone who has suffered loss or harm, or being glad for someone’s good news.  It’s putting yourself in the same position as another person, feeling what he/she would feel.

Feeling empathy for others is probably the best way we can offer comfort and support to someone.  It is also fulfilling God’s commandment to “love one another”.  To really love,  requires mercy, forgiveness, and compassion, even before that person may be ready for it.  It may require looking beyond someone’s cruelties against us.  The more we understand our own need of  God’s mercy and compassion, the more we are able to show compassion and kindness to others.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.  2 Cor. 1:2,3

Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,  make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.  Phil. 2:1,2

When we realize the impact of our Salvation , that God sent his Son Jesus to earth, and He fully experience what we do.  Jesus suffered great hurt and pain.  Jesus cared for his friends when they weep, when they expressed lack of faith and doubted His love for them. When the multitudes were hungry, Jesus feed them, when the disciples were fearful in a storm, Christ showed compassion and calmed the storm, and so many more human expression of emotion and empathy as related to our Savior Jesus Christ that are recorded in the Old and New Testament.

In all their affliction He was afflicted,

And the angel of His presence saved them;

In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them,

And He lifted them and carried them

All the days of old.

Isaiah 63:9

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him  with whom we have to do.    Heb. 4:13-16

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.  For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.  Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.  Hebrews 4:13-16

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.  And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father,  Jesus Christ the righteous;  and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.  1 John 2:1,2

Sometimes we forget, and some may not believe;  that God sees all, He knows all that we go through.  God understands what we are going through at the deepest level and knows our sorrows and distress, all we need to do is call upon His name.  Jesus was crucified for our sins, and resurrected on the third day and is in heaven and intercedes for us with the Father on our behalf.  (Hebrews 4:13-16).

The more we experience the mercies of God, the more we know of God written about Him and His ways in the Bible, the more we experience His compassion, loving kindness, and know of His forgiveness towards us when we fail and sin (1 John 1:5-10),  we have peace and assurance that God cares, and God knows all we go through.  God is a rewarder of them who seek Him.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.    Hebrews 11:6

But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.  1 John 1:7-10

By this we know that we have come to know Him,  if we keep His commandments.  1 John 2:3

A lack of empathy for what someone is feeling or going through is like hating your brother.  To feel no compassion or no kindness towards another,  is like hating your brother.  Is your heart hard or tender and compassionate?  Do you feel pride and superiority like the crowd that wanted to stone the woman caught in sin (adultery) , until Jesus wrote their sins , one by one, in the dust and one by one, each one of them went away knowing that they had sinned too,  and broke God’s commandments.

The Resurrection of Jesus

24 Mar

john11_25-26The angel said to the woman, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.  “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.  Come, see the place where He was lying. “Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”

Matthew 28:5-7

Without the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, there would be no Christianity.  Just as Jesus promised He rose from the dead. Because of this we can be confident that all his promises are true. Jesus bodily resurrection from the dead is proof that He was no false prophet. He had power over death. The resurrection is the basis for our faith because Jesus proved to be more than just a human leader, He is the Son of God.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.  Do you believe this?”  John 11:25,26

Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?  But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.  For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.    1 Corinthians 15:12-17

There were eyewitness accounts that Jesus rose from the dead. The apostles risked being martyred for preaching the truth of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Millions of lives have been changed because of this life changing message of what Jesus did at the Cross, that He suffered, and died and rose again and is alive today!

Christ’ sacrifice on the cross  accomplished God’s plan.  Our sins are forgiven, and we will live forever with Jesus in Heaven.  Without the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, there would be no Christianity. Jesus’ Resurrection is central to our faith because it demonstrates God’s power over death and assures us believers that one day that we also will be resurrected. His resurrection is the beginning of eternal life for all who believe in Him.

God Helps those who Seek Him

26 Oct

Psalms 121

I will lift up my eyes to the hills

From whence comes my help?

My help comes from the LORD,

Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;

He who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, He who keeps Israel

Shall neither slumber nor sleep

The LORD is your keeper,

The LORD is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day,

Nor the moon by night.

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;

He shall preserve your soul.

The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in

From this time forth, and ever forevermore.
