Dealing with Disappointments

18 Jun

Disappointment seems to come to all of us. We can all relate on some level. Someone hurts us or lets us down. We may be the ones that have let someone else down.  We all at sometime in life don’t feel good enough.  But when disappointments come we are at a time of decision  We can condemn ourselves and ask the “what if” or “if only” questions which usually lead to regret.  We could blame others so someone else is at fault. This kind of reasoning usually leads to depression, anger, and bitterness.  If we can see our disappoints as what we can learn and grow from them, we can put it into perspective.

Life is full of disappointments so at sometime or another all of us will deal with it.  Sometimes we just know we should of done things differently and we may be at fault. We may have disappointed God with our actions over something we said or did in the heat of the moment. Remembering that God loves us, we should pray, ask forgiveness and lean on God’s promises. Our God is a God of Hope.  At times like this, turn your attention to heaven.  Move towards God and not away from him.  God is there to give us strength in our weakness.

O God, You are my God, I shall seek You earnestly;

My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,

In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Psalms 63:1

When you are feeling disappointed remember everything you already have. Listen to the LORD by trusting His Word.  Read His Word and study His ways. That might seem unreasonable but God’s Word gives us counsel.  Good and Wise counsel.  When you follow God’s counsel from His word, you will find solutions for your disappointment. Believe that God has a purpose and that he uses the Good and the Bad for a greater purpose.  Know that nothing that happens to you is meaningless.  Pray, ask God for his help and He will see you through your adversity.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”  Romans 8:28
